Everyone seems to be looking for the right diet plan or latest weight loss method out there. Advice on just how to lose weight is just about everywhere these days. Every magazine, every TV talk how, every other spam e-mail seems to be proclaiming the latest and greatest weight loss methods.
Weight Loss is Big Business
The worst weight loss methods are those that promise an unbelievably large amount of weight can be lost and it can be done almost overnight, or so it seems. Think about this for a moment; why are there so many weight loss methods out there in the first place, and if they do actually work, why are these same miracle plans always replaced with the next miracle weight loss plan?
Money is the answer. Most of the people in the weight loss game know that weight loss is a constant need for consumers. To be fair, marketing is supposed to provide products and services to a market. But the concept seems to have gone a bit beyond what would normally be considered as sensible. Weight loss plans will be marketed as long as people need to lose weight. It's simple free-market economics.
Successful Weight Loss May Not Include Diet Plans or Programs
With so many weight loss plans out there, how does one decide which is the right plan? What about all those celebrities who join a fancy commercial diet program where the proper pre-measured portions are provided? Aren't those folks losing weight? The answer is yes, they are losing weight. But joining a program or buying special foods is not necessary to lose weight.
What's needed is a simple, back-to-basics plan to start eating healthier from this day forward. The most successful weight loss program is the one that makes the decision to begin eating healthy right now and continue that in the future. That sound so easy but the facts are that most folks simply can't do this so they turn to one of these diet plans or weight loss programs to get a jump-start on the diet.
Choosing the Right Weight Loss Diet Plan
What is needed is a lifelong weight loss plan. The first thing needed to begin that plan is a commitment to lose weight. Once that is established, move on to the next step. Don't be taken in by all the hype about what plan works and what types of special foods to order. These are simply diet and weight loss trends and, with a few exceptions, they usually won't last very long.
Concentrate on the most basic concepts of weight loss, which is a combination of eating less overall, eating more whole foods, and increasing exercise. Stick to favorite foods and make individual assessments for each food. For example, if celery is preferred then eat lots of celery. It's high on fiber and low fat. On the other hand, if chocolate cake is also desired, decide to eat smaller portions and less frequently.
The methods are simple but not easily followed. People are imperfect and make mistakes. People also have a new day every morning when getting out of bed. Use the good feelings that come with each new day and start the weight loss plan again if needed. Take it easy and keep the commitment and goal of weight loss, and lifelong weight maintenance in sight always.
